Somewhere between the dripping bottle cap, the "is this one cap or two?" guesswork, and the sticky ring the jug leaves on the shelf, most of us have wondered if laundry really needs to be this messy. Laundry detergent tablets are the tidy answer β€” pre-measured, compact, zero pouring. Here's how they work, how to dose them for Malaysian washing machines, and when a tablet beats a liquid (and when it doesn't).

What is a laundry detergent tablet?

A tablet is concentrated detergent pressed into a solid, pre-measured dose β€” ours are 8g each. Drop one into the drum, add your clothes, and start the wash. The tablet dissolves in the water and releases its cleaning agents, exactly the same job as liquid detergent, minus the measuring and the mess.

Our Absolute Laundry Detergent tablets (Ombre Floral) add two things on top: an antibacterial agent that eliminates 99.9% of bacteria, and a soft floral-musk scent that survives the rinse without overpowering.

Why people are switching to tablets

  • No measuring, no guesswork. Overdosing detergent is the most common laundry mistake β€” it leaves residue on fabric (a real irritation risk for sensitive skin) and wastes money. A tablet is always the right dose.
  • No spills or sticky bottles. The laundry-room shelf stays clean.
  • Compact and travel-friendly. A few tablets in a pouch beats decanting liquid into a leaky bottle β€” ideal for trips, hostels, and self-service laundromats.
  • Concentrated formula. One 8g tablet does the work of a full cap of liquid, so a small pack handles weeks of washing.
  • Less plastic. A 160g pack of tablets replaces a heavy plastic jug of mostly water.

How to dose (for Malaysian machines)

Simple rule of thumb with our tablets:

  • 1 tablet β€” regular load, 5–7kg machine (most household top/front loaders)
  • 2 tablets β€” extra-large load, 10–12kg machine or heavily-soiled bulky items

Drop the tablet directly into the drum before loading clothes β€” not the detergent drawer β€” so it dissolves fully in the main wash. One pack of 20 tablets covers roughly 10–20 wash cycles depending on your load sizes.

Good to know: if a tablet arrives cracked or slightly powdered, nothing is wrong β€” the natural-ingredient tablets can crumble in transit, and powdered tablets actually dissolve faster. Cleaning power is unchanged.

What's not in them

Like the rest of our homecare range, the Absolute tablets are formulated to clean hard without the harsh extras. Each tablet is:

  • SLS & SLES free
  • Paraben free
  • Silicone free
  • MIT & MCIT free β€” two preservatives commonly linked to skin sensitisation
  • Built on naturally derived cleaning power with advanced stain-release technology

That matters more than most people realise: detergent never fully rinses out, so whatever is in your wash stays in trace amounts on your clothes, towels, and bedsheets β€” right against your skin all day.

Tablet or liquid β€” which should you pick?

Honest answer: both have their place, and we make both.

  • Choose tablets if you value convenience, travel often, share a machine (everyone doses correctly), or want the antibacterial clean with zero mess. Start with the Absolute Ombre Floral tablets.
  • Choose liquid if you pre-treat stains by applying detergent directly, prefer hand-washing delicates, or need a completely scent-free wash β€” our Fragrance-Free Liquid Laundry Detergent is formulated for sensitive and reactive skin with no fragrance, phosphates, or allergens.

Plenty of households run both: tablets for the weekly loads, fragrance-free liquid for baby clothes and delicates. Browse the full household range to mix and match.

Frequently asked questions

Do laundry tablets dissolve in cold water?

Yes β€” drop the tablet into the drum before adding clothes and it dissolves during the main wash, hot or cold. If you often run short cold cycles, a cracked or powdered tablet dissolves even faster.

Are laundry detergent tablets safe for sensitive skin?

Ours are formulated without SLS, SLES, parabens, silicone, MIT or MCIT β€” the usual suspects for skin irritation. For the most reactive skin (or newborn laundry), pair with our fragrance-free liquid for a completely scent-free wash.

How many tablets do I use per wash?

One tablet for a regular 5–7kg load, two for extra-large 10–12kg loads. Never any measuring.

Can I bring them when travelling?

That's one of their best tricks β€” tablets are solid, compact, and spill-proof, perfect for trips and laundromat runs. A handful of tablets weighs next to nothing.

Ready to skip the measuring cup? Try the Absolute Laundry Detergent Tablets – Ombre Floral β€” 20 tablets, up to 20 washes, 99.9% antibacterial, made for Malaysian laundry.
